Welcome to the final part of my Summer Favorites series. I wanted to post it sooner but I went to Sydney for a few days and so I’m just getting around to it now. Onwards! :)
Bag Lunch Fruit Punch Lip Balm – I thought it fitting to kick off the lip section with a staple. I picked this up in a little boutique somewhere last year and it’s been with me ever since. The balm itself is pretty great, it’s not overly waxy or sticky but the real attraction for me is the fragrance. It is a burst of sweet, fresh and fruity goodness that really smells like summer. Lip balm is an absolute must for me year round and this one is my new fave :)
Mac Scarlet Ibis Lipstick (Mac for Iris Apfel Collection 2012) – This lipstick was a limited edition release with Mac’s Iris Apfel collection sometime last year so unfortunately it is no longer available for purchase. It is an insanely bright shade of red orange that screams “LOOK AT ME!” so of course I love to wear it. I dunno what it is with me and shocking shades of lipsticks but they brighter and more unusual they are the more I love them. Scarlet Ibis has a matte finish which is how I prefer to wear it but it looks great with a little bit of gloss too. I rocked this baby hard this summer with some of my more retro inspired looks.
Mac Pink Pigeon Lipstick (Mac for Iris Apfel Collection 2012) – I loathe pigeons and even typing the word makes me grimace but I adore this lipstick. This matte pink shocker of a colour earned me many a compliment from customers at the cupcake stand I work at and was a permanent fixture in my makeup bag.
Obessesive Compulsive Cosmetics Anime Lip Tar – Continuing with the pinks we now have Anime lip tar which is by far the brightest thing I have ever put on my lips. It is a neon pink beast of a colour that is not at all for the meek or shy.
YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick #10 Provacative Pink - This is the last pink I swear! I’ve had this lipstick for ages now and I wear it all the time. That tiny bit you see poking out of the tube in the picture is all I have left. Unlike Pink Pigeon which is matte and Anime which is satin, this colour is glossy and luxe. It is a cool toned fuchsia that is really quite flattering on my warm toned skin. The fragrance is also a huge plus for me. It smells like sweet honeydew melon mmmm.
Mac Shanghai Spice Lipstick (Creamsheen and Pearl 2012) – My go to nude shade this summer. I wish I had gotten a few backups of this colour when I had the chance because it’s really pretty and goes with pretty much any look or outfit.
Misa The Grass is Greener on My Side – This is a polish I’ve had for ages but kind of forgot about because lime most makeup junkies I have entirely too much nail polish. It’s a neon turquoise shade with shimmer that is gorgeous, glossy and most importantly bright. It looks great on fingers and toes. Unfortunately I don’t have a swatch of it on my nails but you can check it out on Scrangies. This is an older shade form Misa but you can still buy it on Transdesign.
Illmasqua Nurture (Rubber Brights Collection 2012) – This was a limited edition shade released by Illamasqua last year and as soon as I saw the promo images floating around the web I knew that I had to get it. It’s a bright neon green with a rubbery matte finish. It’s so bright that it almost looks radio active. Just look at the flow it’s leaving on my desk in the photo above. You can find a swatch over here.
China Glaze Kiwi Cool-Ada – Another bright green that graced my nails this summer is Kiwi Cool-Ada. I know it’s another green and I should have perhaps worn some other colours but I was really feeling green nails (and pink lipsticks) this summer. This shade is more yellow that Nurture and also has a gorgeous shimmer to it. Swatch here!
Picture Polish Festival – Summer is all about music festivals and since I didn’t go to any due to my dislike of crowds, the heat, porta-loo’s, and obnoxious people I decided to have the party of my fingers. This is a gorgeous flakie topcoat from the girls over at Picture Polish. I really love the opalescent flakes and how they transform a flat nail colour to something a bit more magical. Swatch here!
That concludes my Summer Favorites series for 2013. I really love how much fun I can have with colour in the warmer months but I’m really looking forward to rocking the vampier shades of autumn/winter. I won’t be completely packing away my summer makeup all together because there are no rules to makeup and brights can be worn anywhere and any time. Don’t let anyone tell ya different :) For those of you just entering spring/summer have fun being bright and beautiful x
